The US government can grant the MoF as its highest civilian accolade.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest accolade bestowed upon a citizen by the US government. The MoF honors "an extraordinarily meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private undertakings," and is awarded at the Commander in Chief's discretion. On Friday, President Biden unveiled the first group of recipients of the Medal of Freedom for his administration, among them former Apple CEO Steve Jobs. The seventeenth class of President Biden's nominations for this honor. They include notables like the Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, the former congresswoman Gabby Giffords, the Gold Star Father Khizr Khan, the late US senator John McCain, the late AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, and Denzel Washington, who is by far the most deserving of the bunch. Since President Kennedy established the MoF in 1963, it has only been given out 647 times, and only 26 recipients have received it "with distinction." On July 7, 2022, the awards will be given out at the White House. Jobs received the Presidential Medal of Freedom along with sixteen other honorees, according to the initial July 2 White House announcement. President Biden has frequently stated that the word "possibilities" sums up America. These seventeen Americans represent the heart of the country, dogged work, tenacity, and faith and show the strength of potential. They have bravely acted to drive change in their communities - and across the world - while blazing trails for future generations. They have dedicated their lives to advocating for the most vulnerable among us. They have overcame significant obstacles to achieve impressive accomplishments in the arts and sciences. Jobs is receiving the honor, according to the statement, because "his vision, imagination, and creativity led to inventions that have, and continue to, redefine the way the world communicates, as well as revolutionizing the computer, music, cinema, and wireless industries." Steve Jobs (d. 2011) served as the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple, Inc., as well as the CEO of Pixar and a key position at the Walt Disney Company. His foresight, ingenuity, and imagination resulted in technologies that have and continue to revolutionize the computer, music, cinema, and wireless industries as well as the way the world communicates.
