Insights on iPhone 16 Orders: What to Expect from Apple's Latest Release

According to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it appears that Apple may not have increased its iPhone 16 orders as much as previously rumored. What the Suppliers are Saying

Kuo notes that key suppliers, TSMC and Largan, have indicated their orders for the iPhone 16 haven’t seen a significant boost:

• TSMC: "We did not see kind of unit growth suddenly increased."
• Largan: "Orders for high-end models this year are similar to last year."

This suggests that while some suppliers have seen a slight increase in orders for the second half of 2024, the overall number of iPhone 16 units remains about 87 million. This is slightly lower than the 91 million units for the iPhone 15 during the same period in 2023.

Projected Shipments and Features

Bloomberg recently reported that Apple aims to ship 90 million iPhone 16 devices this year, hoping new AI features, dubbed Apple Intelligence, will boost demand. Apple has allegedly told suppliers and partners that it's targeting about 10% growth in shipments of new iPhones.

However, Kuo points out that Apple Intelligence will only be available in Beta for US users in the latter half of 2024, and initially, Apple Intelligence Siri will support only English. This might limit the new features' ability to drive global demand.

"Regardless of whether Apple Intelligence alone can drive replacement demand (which is another big topic), the expectation that consumers will buy the new iPhone 16 for the Beta version of Apple Intelligence in 2H24 may be too optimistic," Kuo wrote.

The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to come in four sizes:

• 6.1-inch iPhone 16
• 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro
• 6.5-inch iPhone 16 Plus
• 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max

For the camera enthusiasts, here’s what you can expect:

• iPhone 16: 48MP (1/1.5", 7P) main camera, 12MP Ultrawide lens (5P).
• iPhone 16 Pro: 48MP (1/1.3", 7P) main camera, new 48MP UW (6P AF) lens, 12MP Tele (Periscope 1G3P) lens.

And for those looking under the hood, while early predictions suggested an A17 chip, more recent leaks indicate the entire iPhone 16 lineup will feature the new A18 chip.
