Apple’s long-rumored HomePod with a display won’t be entering mass production until after WWDC 2025, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. While many assumed hardware issues might be the cause of the delay, Kuo reveals that the real challenge is software development, specifically ensuring that the HomePod’s interface aligns with iOS 19 and other upcoming OS updates.

Why the Delay?

Originally expected in early 2025, the HomePod with a display has now been pushed to Q3 2025 due to Apple’s broader software overhaul. As part of Apple Intelligence and the larger iOS 19 redesign, the HomePod’s interface needs to integrate seamlessly with Apple’s ecosystem. Ensuring a smooth experience across iPhone, iPad, and Mac is a top priority before launching new hardware.

What to Expect from Apple’s Smart Display HomePod

While the final design is still under wraps, reports suggest the new HomePod will feature:

  • A 6-to-7-inch display
  • Powered by Apple’s A18 processor
  • Vision Pro-inspired interface, with circular icons and a refreshed UI
  • A sleek design that could resemble a square screen on an iMac-style base

Apple is also rumored to be working on a smart home security camera, expected in 2026, which may integrate with the new HomePod to enhance its smart home capabilities.

Can Apple Compete in the Smart Home Market?

With Amazon recently unveiling Alexa+, featuring advanced AI-powered capabilities, Apple’s smart home lineup faces strong competition. While HomePod and Siri have lagged behind Alexa and Google Assistant, Apple is betting that its new AI-driven features and deeper ecosystem integration will help it regain ground.

When Will We Know More?

With mass production not starting until after WWDC 2025, the HomePod with a display will likely be announced at Apple’s September 2025 event, alongside the iPhone 17 lineup. Shipments could begin later that year, with Kuo predicting up to 1 million units sold annually if the device gains traction.
