Apple has rolled out a new beta firmware update for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4, bringing the build number to 7E5080a. This beta release is available exclusively for members of the Apple Developer Program, enabling them to test new features, debug issues, and provide feedback.
While Apple has not disclosed specific changes in this update, developers enrolled in the beta program can install the firmware and help identify potential improvements before a public release.
Important Notes for Beta Testers
Before installing the beta firmware, users should be aware that:
- The beta firmware cannot be removed once installed.
- Devices will continue to run this beta software until an official non-beta update is released.
- Future beta updates will install automatically as long as AirPods are enrolled in the program.
How to Enroll in the AirPods Beta Firmware Program
To install the beta firmware, developers need to meet the following requirements:
- An iPhone running iOS 18 beta
- A Mac running macOS 15 beta and Xcode 16 beta
- A pair of AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods 4
Steps to Enroll:
- Pair your AirPods with your iPhone and confirm they are connected.
- Connect your iPhone to a Mac with Xcode beta open. When prompted, click "Allow device to connect" on your Mac and "Trust Computer" on your iPhone.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy & Security, enable Developer Mode, and restart your iPhone.
- Reconnect your iPhone to the Mac and reopen Settings if necessary.
- Go to Developer Settings at the bottom of the Settings menu, select Pre-Release Beta Firmware, and toggle the option for your AirPods model.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the enrollment. The update may take up to 24 hours to appear on your AirPods.
Log Collection and Feedback
- Log collection is off by default but can be enabled in the Pre-Release Beta Firmware menu.
- If enabled, log collection automatically turns off after four days.
- Apple encourages testers to report any issues using Feedback Assistant.
