Netflix, As Expected, takes the lead in the Streaming Category with 27 Nominations.
Netflix's toughness versus traditional distributors was demonstrated once again in this year's Oscar nominations, but the streamers as a whole did not totally dominate the Academy Awards nominations.
Netflix took home the most nominations with 27, including two best picture awards for The Power of the Dog and Don't Look Up, while it missed out on a third best picture contender for Tick, Tick... Boom!
Apple now has six Oscar nominations, the most notable of which is for Siân Heder's Coda, which is the first best picture nominee in the tech giant's limited history with original film and TV content, as well as the first film lead by a predominantly deaf cast. The Tragedy of Macbeth, directed by Joel Coen, garnered three nominations, including a best actor nomination for Denzel Washington, who now has a record-setting ten Oscar nominations.

It's the first Best Picture nomination for a film featuring a predominantly deaf cast. Troy Kotsur is the first male actor to ever receive a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, 35 years after a deaf artist was nominated.
CODA is a remake of a French film named La Famille BĂ©lier, and Sian Heder is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. The film received the Grand Jury Prize for Drama and the Audience Award at last year's Sundance Film Festival, and Apple paid a Sundance record of $25 million to purchase the rights to it.
The Tragedy of Macbeth, directed by Joel Coen, was the other Apple film to get nominations this year. Denzel Washington was nominated for Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design.

Don't Look Up, a star-studded climate change comedy, and The Power of the Dog, a Western, are both nominated for Best Picture. With 12 nominations, the latter is in front of the pack.
