The battery life is expected to be a whopping 20 hours.
Apple didn't simply debut a new MacBook Air at WWDC; the 13-inch MacBook Pro was also redesigned. Unsurprisingly, the new 'entry' pro laptop is powered by an M2 processor, which promises enhanced performance and efficiency, as well as a whopping 20 hours of peak battery life (during video playing) and accelerated ProRes video processing. The new model retains the Touch Bar and does not undergo a big overhaul like its Air predecessor.
There will also be "studio-quality" microphones, up to 24GB of RAM, and a maximum storage capacity of 2TB. This isn't, like its M1 predecessor, a no-holds-barred workstation. If you require a lot of memory or storage, you'll need to upgrade to a higher-tier MacBook Pro.
When it arrives in July, the MacBook Pro M2 will cost $1,299 ($1,199 for education). The place of this system in the lineup hasn't changed since then. This is the Mac portable for those who need active cooling for intensive workloads but don't require the extra processing capability of premium machines like the 14- and 16-inch Pro models. However, the 13-inch machine is more difficult to sell when the new Air offers comparable performance, a larger screen, and a MagSafe charging connector for a lower price.
In terms of design, this latest edition of the 13-inch MacBook Pro looks almost identical to its predecessor. The Touch Bar, which was removed from the 14-inch and 16-inch variants, is still there at the top of the keyboard.
This notebook, unlike the current MacBook Air, does not support a MagSafe charger. Instead, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports are available for charging and peripherals. The new 13-inch MacBook Pro has a Retina display with a P3 wide color gamut and TrueTone technology with up to 500 nits of brightness and a 13.3-inch Retina display with a P3 wide color gamut. A 720p FaceTime HD camera sits at the top of the screen, making it the lowest-resolution webcam in the MacBook series.
The Apple M2 CPU, which is based on the second-generation 5m technology, sits at the heart of the laptop. It has an 18 % quicker CPU, a 35 % more powerful GPU, and a 40 percent faster Neural Engine, according to the company.
Working with RAW photographs in Affinity Photo is approximately 40% faster than the previous version, according to Apple, with a faster 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, and up to 3.4x faster for those upgrading from a model lacking Apple silicon.
It now includes ProRes encode and decode functionality in the M2 media engine, allowing users to play back up to 11 streams of 4K and two streams of 8K ProRes video and convert their projects to ProRes roughly three times faster than previously.
On the subject of battery life, it can play video for up to 20 hours on a single charge. The new Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch has a starting price of $1,299 and will be available for purchase next month, though Apple has not specified a specific date.
