Student IDs on iPhone and Apple Watch are now available in Canada and at Additional Campuses in the United States

Hundreds of thousands of College Students in the United States and Canada will benefit from the ease of Mobile Student IDs in the Apple Wallet app this School Year.

University students and professors may simply tap their iPhones to get access to campus facilities and make purchases using their student IDs stored in Wallet.

This School Year, increasing numbers of students will be able to roam around campus and make purchases using mobile student IDs on iPhone and Apple Watch. Mobile student IDs can now be connected to the Wallet app in Canada for the first time, beginning this year with the University of New Brunswick and Sheridan College. Auburn University, Northern Arizona University, University of Maine, New Mexico State University, and many other universities around the US have recently adopted mobile student IDs.

Jennifer Bailey, Apple's vice president of Apple Pay, stated, "We're delighted to partner with more schools in the US and debut mobile student IDs in Canada to give a secure and convenient way to navigate around campus with iPhone and Apple Watch." Students and faculty have welcomed using their iPhones and Apple Watches as the most convenient method to get around campus, buy food, and more.

Many colleges are shifting away from physical cards and toward a mobile-first approach to their student ID programs, allowing students to use their mobile student IDs in Wallet to complete any task that previously required a plastic ID card both on and off campus.

On the iPhone 12 Pro and Apple Watch Series 6, a Student ID from the University of New Brunswick is displayed in the Wallet.

Colleges and Institutions in Canada now have access to mobile student IDs in Wallet for the first time.

For the first time since the debut of mobile student IDs in Wallet in April 2021, students used their mobile IDs to make purchases and gain access to campus buildings in more numbers than they did with their plastic ID cards. The University of Alabama will be the first school to give mobile student IDs to its 38,000 Students who have appropriate devices starting this autumn.

"Our Campus Community has massively embraced the mobile ID," said Jeanine Brooks, head of the University of Alabama's Action Card program. "Because of it, going contactless over the previous year was a simple shift for us." Students and the university have saved time and money by using their UA ACT Card in Wallet.

They use it to go into their dorms, leisure facilities, student gatherings, libraries, vending machines, and other places. Because students do not lose their cards, there are no issues or costs associated with card theft or replacement. This function has been a huge hit with our pupils."

"Our iPhone and Apple Watch users will appreciate the flexibility and utility of our mobile ID card, and we are proud to be the first institution in Canada to provide this service."

Students and schools benefit from mobile student IDs on the iPhone and Apple Watch since students don't have to worry about misplacing their plastic card. Furthermore, transaction histories are never shared with Apple or maintained on Apple servers. If a student loses his or her iPhone or Apple Watch, they can use the Find My app to track it down and lock it.

Apple Partners with industry leaders in campus credentials and mobile access, including as Transact, CBORD, TouchNet, Atrium, HID Global, and Allegion, to allow student IDs on Wallet.
