In iOS 16, How can you Edit or Cancel an iMessage?

Take that awful text back! (results may vary)
Everyone has sent a text message that they later regretted. It can be at the least embarrassing and at the worst disastrous to send a text to the wrong person, whether it was a spelling error that your parents would never forgive you for, a message with the wrong word in it ("I don't want to come to the party!" instead of "I want to come to the party!"), or a sudden realisation. With the exception of sending a "I didn't mean that!" message in response, there was nothing you could do about "delete for everyone" on iMessage until now, despite the fact other messaging applications like Signal, WhatsApp, and Viber all feature some variation of it. If you amend or unsend a message within 15 minutes of sending it and the recipient is running iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS Ventura, you can do so using Apple's new functionality for the iMessage chat app in iOS 16. Additionally, if the other person is on an earlier version, it fails awkwardly (so avoid depending on this feature during the open beta). Additionally, you might want to be aware of a few other risks when using this tool. Before we begin, it's important to note that editing and deleting sent messages isn't currently backwards-compatible with iOS versions prior to 15.5, which is the most recent version. If you try to edit a message to someone using iOS 15, they will receive a follow-up message with the edited content while the original also remains. This will work as planned if you're texting someone else with the iOS 16 beta. Although not ideal, that is doable. Unsending a message on an iOS 15 user's iPhone will not delete it, which is a drawback. That implies that the recipient will still get your message even if you decide to delete it. The caveat is that iOS 16 is still in its early stages of development, so anything could change by the time it is released later this year. After all, it shouldn't be too challenging for Apple to deliver a final iOS 15 update that includes support for modifying and unsending messages for users who haven't updated to iOS 16 yet (or who are unable to do so) when it becomes available. For now, all we can do is wait and see. In light of this, make sure that anyone you are texting is using iOS 16 or you risk looking foolish.
