Apple Releases New 7E101 Firmware for AirPods Max After Pulling 7E99 Update
Share
Apple has just released a new firmware update for AirPods Max, rolling out build 7E101 to replace the earlier 7E99 version that launched and was quickly pulled earlier this week. The update arrives alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, and it’s all about unlocking lossless audio and ultra-low latency for Apple’s premium over-ear headphones.
Why the Change?
The original 7E99 firmware, released on March 31, was supposed to enable these advanced audio features when using AirPods Max with a USB-C connection. But some users reported issues installing the update, prompting Apple to remove the update and issue this revised version.
The new 7E101 build keeps the same feature set but hopefully resolves the installation problems seen with 7E99.

Listen in 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio
