Apple Releases iPadOS 17.7 for M4 iPad Pro After iPadOS 18 Issues

Apple Releases iPadOS 17.7 for M4 iPad Pro After iPadOS 18 Issues

If you’re an M4 iPad Pro user, you might have noticed some issues with the recent iPadOS 18 update. Shortly after its release, some users reported that their devices wouldn’t power on after installing the update. In response, Apple quickly pulled iPadOS 18 for these models and has now released iPadOS 17.7 as a temporary fix.

What Happened with iPadOS 18?

It all started when some M4 iPad Pro users began experiencing a frustrating issue where their devices acted as if they had no power after installing iPadOS 18. A well-known leaker, @StellaFudge, revealed that the update was causing certain iPads to behave like they were completely dead. Apple took swift action by stopping the release for affected models while investigating the issue.

Apple’s Response

Yesterday, MacRumors obtained a memo from Apple confirming the problem. The company acknowledged that a "small number" of iPad Pro M4 models had encountered power issues after the iPadOS 18 update. Apple is currently working on a solution and has recommended that technicians try a Hard Reset before attempting any other fixes.

To make sure users don’t face any more issues while the investigation continues, Apple has temporarily taken down the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models.

The Release of iPadOS 17.7

In the meantime, Apple has released iPadOS 17.7, with build number 21H16, for M4 iPad Pro devices. While it’s unclear if this update is directly related to the fix for the iPadOS 18 issue, it’s available now for users to install. If you were affected by the power issue or simply want to ensure your device is stable, you can download iPadOS 17.7 here and give your iPad some peace of mind.

What Should You Do?

If you’re using an M4 iPad Pro, it’s a good idea to hold off on updating to iPadOS 18 for now. Instead, update to iPadOS 17.7 to avoid any potential issues with your device. And if you’ve already encountered the power problem, try performing a Hard Reset or visit an Apple service technician for help.

We’re keeping an eye out for updates on when iPadOS 18 will return for M4 iPad Pro models, so stay tuned!
