Apple May Be Developing a Lightweight 'Vision Air' Headset With Titanium Build
Share
Apple could be gearing up to expand its spatial computing lineup with a lighter, more accessible headset rumored to be called Vision Air, according to a new leak from insider Kosutami. The potential addition to the Vision family aims to shed some weight—literally and figuratively—while offering a stylish throwback to classic Apple design.
In a recent post on X, Kosutami claimed the new headset will feature select titanium components to reduce weight, including the connectors and battery structure. While the majority of the headset’s exterior is still expected to be made of aluminum, titanium will be used internally to help lighten the device. The finish is also generating some buzz, with the leaker describing it as a "midnight black-like" color reminiscent of the iPhone 5's graphite-blue tint.
Not a 'Pro'—But Possibly an 'Air'
The leaker hinted that this model may not carry the “Pro” branding, which suggests Apple could be positioning this as a more affordable or mainstream option. “You can Air it out,” Kosutami teased—an obvious nod to Apple’s Air naming convention, used for lighter and more consumer-friendly products like the iPad Air and MacBook Air.
A New Power Connector?
In a follow-up, Kosutami also shared images of what appears to be a new power connector designed for this headset. The plug is described as wider than the original Lightning connector, but smaller and thinner than the battery-side connector used on the Vision Pro. This could signal Apple’s intent to redesign and streamline accessories for the new model, possibly improving comfort and usability.
Vision Pro 2 Still in the Works
This new Air-style model doesn’t mean Apple is abandoning its high-end offering. Multiple reports confirm that Apple is actively working on a second-generation Vision Pro. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, production of the Vision Pro 2 could begin in late 2025, featuring an M5 chip and Apple Intelligence support. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests we may not see it ship until 2026, though a preview could happen earlier.
Meanwhile, both Kuo and Gurman agree that Apple has shifted focus to developing a lower-cost headset, with production potentially aimed for 2027. This rumored Vision Air could be part of that plan, offering a middle ground between the $3,499 Vision Pro and a future entry-level model.
What to Expect
If the rumors hold true, the Vision Air may be Apple’s next step in expanding the spatial computing ecosystem—delivering core features in a lighter, sleeker, and potentially more affordable package. With design cues drawn from the past and materials built for the future, the device could be ideal for users looking to experience Apple’s mixed-reality technology without the bulk or the Pro-level price tag.
As always, details remain unofficial, but with whispers growing louder and prototype parts surfacing, it’s clear Apple is not done building out the Vision lineup. We'll be watching closely for more.
